City of Laval Major work to improve the quality of electricity service in the districts of Laval‑les‑Îles, Renaud‑Coursol and Laval‑des‑Rapides
Work is underway to improve service reliability in several sectors of Laval. We will continue to invest in the power system to provide our customers with reliable, high‑quality service.
Hydro‑Québec crews have inspected the distribution lines that supply these districts to collect data and identify potential issues, including those that could lead to outages. Based on the observations, some corrective measures have already been implemented and other maintenance work has been completed or is planned.
The work includes:
- Vegetation control near power lines to reduce outages
- Maintenance work such as equipment replacement (insulators, wires, etc.) to strengthen and modernize the system
- Interventions in targeted areas with strong potential to improve service quality
Laval‑les‑Îles

Mercier-Hochelaga‑Maisonneuve Grounding work on fence poles at Longue‑Pointe substation and partial vegetation clearing
Hydro‑Québec is carrying out grounding work on the facilities at Longue‑Pointe substation. This work is essential to ensure the smooth operation of the transmission system, as well as the safety of facilities, equipment, workers and the public.
The grounding grid plays an essential role in the operation of the transmission system. It ensures the proper functioning of the system’s protective devices.
As part of the the provincial anti‑theft grounding conversion program, the grounding upgrade has been started at Longue‑Pointe substation.
Grounding work will also be carried out on the poles of the fence separating the substation from houses located on Rue Beauclerk. To allow access, the hedges around these poles must be trimmed. Vegetation control measures will therefore be carried out.
- Grounding work on fence poles: From November 17 to December 18, 2025, during the day, on weekdays. If necessary, the work could be continued from February 16 to March 16, 2026.
- Vegetation control: Occasional work between November 17 and December 18, 2025.
- Grounding work has been underway for several months at Longue‑-Pointe substation. The work is carried out on weekdays during the day and does not cause any specific disturbances.
- Trimming of the hedges could temporarily reduce the privacy provided by the vegetation.
- As a precautionary measure, we ask residents to respect a two-metre safety corridor around the fence during the work period.
- The clearing will only be carried out around the fence poles (spaced roughly 10 metres apart).
- To prevent any risk of fire, Hydro‑Québec will spray the site with water during each intervention.
Rivière‑des‑Prairies–Pointe‑aux‑Trembles Replacement of towers on 735‑kV lines in the greater Montréal area

Operations include:
- Dismantling and replacing current towers with more efficient anti-cascading towers of the same size that comply with current standards
- Upgrading foundations and related equipment
Project objectives and benefits
- Secure the power grid and supply in the greater Montréal area
- Reduce the risk of widespread damage and extended outages
- Speed up service restoration in the event of damage
