Jobs in trades like those on the distribution system are physically demanding, so good physical skills are required. That said, employees have access to many tools to help them on the job.

Regions
You can apply for jobs in different regions, some of which are remote, provided you’re willing to go and work there.

Driver’s licence
Most trade jobs require a Class 5 driver’s licence.
Line and cable crew members who work on the distribution system must have a Class 3 licence.
Information on the hiring process
Here are some important things to know when you apply.
Posting period
The posting period depends on the types of position and needs. For example, line and cable worker jobs are posted three or four times a year.
Power system electrician and mechanic jobs are posted for longer periods. The offers specify that the applications go into a bank of candidates because the positions open in the fall and are filled during the following year.
Apply
You can apply for all the jobs you’re qualified for. Check the Requirements section to make sure you have the right training. Fill in all the information (like the driver’s licence). You can even apply for some jobs before you graduate.
Hiring process
Once your application is received, the next steps are: analysis of your application, interview, online tests (cognitive skills and personality), in‑person assessment (for some positions), offer of employment and health check‑up.
Types of positions
Temporary positions
Jobs in the trades that are posted externally are temporary. The people who are hired benefit from the same working conditions as permanent employees.
Permanent positions
Permanent employees have priority with respect to changing their place of work or getting a job with a particular schedule (with evening or weekend bonuses).
Bank of candidates
These jobs are posted as part of an upcoming recruitment process.
