Billing
Yes. You can manage how to receive your bills through the Profile tab in your Customer Space.
If you are the proxy holder for this account, you will continue to receive the bill by mail if the account holder is not registered for Online Billing.
If you are the account holder or account manager of a business account, you will continue to receive a bill by mail unless you cancel it.
You can manage how you receive your bill through the Profile tab in your Customer Space as needed.
These costs have been approved by the Régie de l'énergie, and they apply to non-communicating meters only. To avoid these fees, you can ask to have your meter replaced by a communicating meter free of charge. A communicating meter does not require monthly reading.
Despite the installation of new communicating meters, Hydro‑Québec's billing cycle is currently based on a reading every two months.
You can follow your consumption by the hour, day, month and year in your Customer Space using the Consumption Profile tool.
Deposit and payment guarantee
Residential customers
If you are already an account holder, Hydro‑Québec could ask for a deposit in these two situations:
- You have received a late payment notice from Hydro‑Québec for one of your contracts within the 24 months preceding the request for a deposit.
- You filed for bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (RSC 1985, c. B-3) within the 24 months preceding the request for a deposit.
Business customers
There are two cases where Hydro‑Québec can request a deposit:
- You are requesting a new service contract, and:
- You are not already a customer, or
- You were in default for one of your contracts within the 24 months preceding the request for a deposit.
- You already have a service contract, and:
- You were in default for one of your contracts within the 24 months preceding the request for a deposit, or
- Your contracts are considered risky or very risky and you have been billed over $500,000 within the last 24 months for all of your contracts for non-domestic use.
You can pay the deposit through any of the accepted payment methods.
You can also provide us with an irrevocable letter of guarantee. Contact your financial institution to learn about the charges and conditions associated with such a letter.
The amount of the deposit is equal to your highest estimated consumption (power and energy) for 60 consecutive days.
Adjustment of deposit amount
During the holding period for your deposit, if we notice that the requested amount is no longer equal to the highest bill for a consumption period of 60 consecutive days, we may adjust it upward or downward. We will notify you in such situations. Please note that the holding period for your deposit will not be extended if the deposit amount is adjusted.
The deposit is kept for a maximum of 48 months. At the end of this period, we will review your file.
- If all of your bills were paid on time, the deposit amount will be credited to your account and deducted from your bill.
- If you paid a bill after its due date, we can keep the deposit for an additional period of up to 48 months.
The deposit bears interest at the rate set on April 1 of every year by the National Bank on one-year guaranteed investment certificates. Interest is calculated on March 31 of each year and paid by June 1.
Adjustment of the interest rate
From April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, the interest rate is 2.75%.
