Funding for Innovative greenhouses
To contribute to Québec's food self‑sufficiency and foster the development of the greenhouse industry, Hydro‑Québec has created a customized funding offer for greenhouse growers.
Advantages of implementing energy efficiency measures in greenhouses
Using a heat pump—a smart choice!
Controlling the temperature is at the heart of your greenhouse’s performance. In fact, heating and dehumidification make up a large percentage of your electricity costs.
Aerothermal heat pump
Aerothermal heat pumps can capture the heat or cold from the outdoor air and transfer it to the greenhouse.
Advantages
- Meet heating, cooling and dehumidification needs
- of 2 to 2.5
- Can be integrated with various hot air and hot-water heating systems
The higher the COP, the more you lower your energy use and your electricity bill.
Funding
The amount of funding granted is based on the use of measures specific to greenhouses over a 12‑month growing period.
Geothermal heat pump
Geothermal heat pumps can use the thermal energy from the ground to transfer heat or cold to the greenhouse.
Advantages
- Meet heating, cooling and dehumidification needs
- of 3.2 to 4.3
- Service life of more than 20 years
- Can be integrated with various hot‑air and hot-water heating systems
The higher the COP, the more you lower your energy use and your electricity bill.
Funding
The amount of funding granted is based on the use of measures specific to greenhouses over a 12‑month growing period.
Accumulation reservoirs
The accumulation reservoirs is integrated into a hot water heating system to optimize its performance. Like a thermal storage unit operating on a daily cycle, when the greenhouse is sufficiently heated, the reservoir stores heat for later use.
Advantage
- Combined with a heat pump, the system reduces the equipment’s electrical power (kW) by 5% to 30%
Funding
The amount of funding granted is based on the use of measures specific to greenhouses over a 12‑month growing period.
LED lighting for horticultural purposes
LED lighting supports photosynthesis and leads to energy savings of 30% to 50%, depending on the lighting system that's replaced and the type of crops.
How to participate in the program
Make your project a reality by purchasing and installing eligible energy efficient products and systems. Then apply for funding in just a few clicks!
Read the Participant’s Guide
Before you start your project, make sure you understand the eligibility requirements and program terms and conditions.
Submit my request
Use the Efficient Solutions OSE tool to evaluate the amount of funding you could receive for your project and send in your application once the products are installed.
Important note:
- The funding must total at least $100.
- The program requirements were modified on October 7, 2024. If you began the application process prior that date, please refer to the transitional rules.
Carry out your project with a partner
You can also work with a partner (specialized company, equipment manufacturer, consulting engineering firm, etc.) that will support you in the process and provide all the required documents. Partners may also receive incentive compensation.

Receive up to $50,000 in funding to conduct an energy analysis. You’ll be able to target potential projects involving the efficient use of electricity while improving the energy efficiency of your greenhouses.
When combined with the Additional Electricity Option, the equipment and systems covered by the Innovative greenhouses module offer the dual advantage of lowering your GHG emissions and your energy bill.
The option targets greenhouse growers who use all or part of the electricity supplied by Hydro-Québec for photosynthetic lighting or space heating to raise crops.
If you’re able to modulate your electricity use, this option could be advantageous for you as it helps reduce electricity costs.
If your project involves products, equipment or systems that are not eligible under the Farming Component, you can apply to the Customized Option of the Medium and Large Business component.
The Programme d’accès au réseau triphasé [Access program for three‑phase power] led by the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) in collaboration with Hydro‑Québec provides funding to agricultural and agri‑food businesses in rural areas that don’t have access to a three‑phase power system. The three‑phase power system facilitates the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
There are two types of funding:
- 75% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $250,000 to extend the system.
- 50% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $25,000 to connect the system.
