Plate heat exchanger
The plate heat exchanger transfers heat between two liquids that are at different temperatures while avoiding direct contact between the liquids.
Advantages
- Energy savings of 35% to 55% (the temperature of the milk is lowered from 36°C to between 16°C and 21°C) where milk is cooled and stored in tanks at 3°C
- Longer compressor life because the hours of use are cut by half
- Shorter payback period for your investment

Variable-speed milk pump
A variable-speed milk pump ensures a steady milk flow through the plate heat exchanger, which optimizes thermal exchange between the milk and the chilling water.
Advantages
- Milk is cooled by about an additional 2°C before being transferred to the tank, where it is stored at 3°C
- More pre-warmed drinking water for livestock
- Shorter payback period for your investment

Variable-frequency drive (VFD) vacuum pump
The variable-frequency drive (VFD) vacuum pump is self‑regulating. It maintains a constant vacuum to transport the milk to the receiver bowl, where the pump then transfers the milk to the bulk tank.

- Reduced electricity consumption of up to 30% compared to a standard pump
- Longer compressor life because the hours of use are cut by half

Milk cooler heat recovery system connected to the water tank
A heat recovery system connected to a water tank recovers some of the heat from the condensation circuit of the refrigeration system. By combining the plate heat exchanger with the tank, the milk is chilled in two steps.

- Energy savings on water heating by recovering up to 30% of the energy given off by the condensing unit

Use the Efficient Solutions OSE tool to evaluate the amount of funding you could receive for your project and send in your application once the products are installed.

- The funding must total at least $100.
- The program requirements were modified on April 2, 2024. If you began the application process prior that date, please refer to the transitional rules.
Carry out your project with a partner
You can also work with a partner (specialized company, equipment manufacturer, consulting engineering firm, etc.) that will support you in the process and provide all the required documents. Partners may also receive incentive compensation.
