*Important note: The calculator estimates the amount of the credit, which is for information purposes only. The actual credit applied to your bill may differ from the estimated amount since the rates used to calculate the credit are those in effect at the time of the peak demand event. Your company is solely responsible for implementing the required curtailment measures and fulfilling the conditions of the rate option to receive the credit.
Sample credit calculation
The following example is based on a 2,100 kW effective interruptible power reduction.
Block of power reduction |
Applicable credit ($/kW of effective interruptible power) |
Power | Credit amount |
---|---|---|---|
From 10 to 100 kW | 100.0 kW | ||
More than 100 to 400 kW | 300.0 kW | ||
More than 400 to 1,200 kW | 800.0 kW | ||
More than 1,200 kW | 900.0 kW |

Structure of the option
When you sign up for the Demand Response Option, the prices and conditions in effect for your base rate continue to apply.
You will receive a credit if you reduce your power demand during peak demand events at Hydro-Québec’s request.
Before each peak demand event, your designated contacts will be notified via email of the date and time the event will start and end.
At the end of the winter period, you will receive a credit determined based on blocks of power demand reduction for each kilowatt (kW) of effective interruptible power, provided that the reduction threshold of 10 kW is reached and you lower your power demand during all but a maximum of four peak demand events. This credit will be applied to your bill no later than the end of the third billing cycle following the winter period.

For winter 2023‑2024, two credit structures were approved by the Régie de l’énergie in its decision D-2023‑131. The credit amount calculated corresponds to the higher credit obtained by applying either of the two credit structures set out in the addendum to the Electricity Rates entitled Demand Response Option in effect December 1, 2023.
Detailed explanation of the credit
A report detailing the credit applied to your electricity bill will be added to your company’s Customer Space or large‑power customer portal, as applicable. Titled Details of the credit applied to the bill, the report can only be viewed by the account managers or representatives who are duly authorized to make changes to the Demand Response Option. For large-power customers, only the person who oversees access authorizations and the individuals designated by that person will have access to the report.

Calculation of credit at the end of the winter period

- Your effective interruptible power must be at least 10 kW. Otherwise, dynamic pricing may be a better fit for your company.
-
If we do not send you any peak demand event
notifications during the winter period, we will
grant you a credit equivalent to the lesser of
the following values:
- 15% of the contract’s maximum power demand for the winter period multiplied by per kilowatt or
- The amount of your credit will be confirmed no later than the end of the third billing cycle following the winter period in question. A report detailing the credit applied to the bill will be added directly to the Customer Space of customers with contracts at rates DP, DM, G, G9 or M, and in the large-power customer portal for Rate LG customers.
